GDPR-Compliance and consent for Google Ads in Pugpig Bolt
From January 16th 2024, Google Ad Manager began rolling out the requirement that implementation of a certified CMP (Consent Management Platform) is needed in order to serve ads in GDPR regions. This will affect any Google Ads served in Bolt, as described here. The exception to this is Limited Ads as described by Google.
We are currently seeing a minority of customers being affected by this, but the expectation is that the change will roll out more widely soon. We aren't requiring customers to do this, but we recommend it if GAM revenue is an important part of your app (we'll happily defer to your ad teams if they feel it isn't necessary at this time).
As of Bolt iOS and Android 3.23, Pugpig Bolt supports two CMPs out-of-the-box, these are:
Support for these same two CMPs on Bolt Web will be added in the coming weeks. Should you wish to use another CMP, get in touch with your Pugpig Customer Success Manager to discuss a custom integration (which will entail time to deliver, and cost).
We'll also need to roll out a small amount of code to your timeline, but this is risk-free and very quick.
The CMP will present a modal to the user early in the startup experience that allows a user to opt-in or out of certain tracking purposes. The decisions on how to configure these modals, such as what purposes and vendors to list are up to you and are controlled in the dashboards of the CMPs themselves.
UMP is a free solution included as part of Google Ad Manager, so this might be the easiest choice for those customers without an existing CMP.
