What is Google User Messaging Platform (UMP)?
UMP is Google's out-of-the-box consent management platform (CMP) designed to go hand in hand with Google Ad Manager. UMP is supported on Bolt iOS and Android from version 3.23 and beyond, Bolt Web support will be added in the coming months. Bolt supports the following UMP features.
Displaying the consent modal
If turned on, the UMP screen will show on first run of the app. It will appear after the onboarding screens (if there are any), and before the user sees any content. It will also be accessible at any time from the settings tab, allowing the user to change their consent choices.
The styling, wording and choices available on this screen are entirely configured within Google Ad Manager.
Pass content status to Google Ads
The choices a user makes on the UMP prompt will be included in any Google Ads request from the content view or timeline. This is necessary for most kinds of advertising in GDPR regions.
Set consent details for third party SDKs
The user's consent choices are also stored using the default IAB-compliant standards so that other SDKs can access it and alter their behaviour accordingly. How (and if) they do this is dependent on the third-parties themselves, and how they adhere to the standards.
What do we need from you to get set up?
As UMP is essentially part of the Google Ad Manager set up, all we'd need from you are Google Ads App Ids for both iOS and Android. These can be found in your Google Ad Manager dashboard under Inventory > Apps. Each will start with “ca-app-pub-”
To publish your GDPR message you'll want to follow Google's step-by-step instructions, we can't advise you on the actual choices made in this configuration, as they'll be specific to your advertising set up and partners.
