X-cago PDF conversion
X-cago are deprecating their old News Industry Text Format (NITF) for enhanced PDFs and replacing it with a new RePUB format. We're currently migrating all customers to this new RePUB format, this article will tell you all you need to know!
What are the advantages of converting to the new RePUB format?
1. X-cago are deprecating the old NITF format and will soon stop supporting it.
2. RePUB conversions (when compared to their old NITF counterpart) contain more meta-data (more inline classes) which allows us to apply richer styles for your articles.
For example, in the NITF feed there was only one html heading available to style (unless manual edits were made), but with RePUB there are multiple classes we can apply styling to which will give a better sense of heading hierarchy for your articles.
Example body components supported by RePUB:
- Heading
- Sub heading
- Callout
- Pull quote (with credit)
- Boxout
- Image/photo/infographic (with caption and credit)
- Inline typographical elements e.g bold, italic, underline, superscript and subscript
- Recipe components e.g ingredients list and tips
3. Visually RePUB conversions looks better and cleaner, and should need less manual editing.
What are the steps for conversion?
1. We'll set up the RePUB importer and ensure we're receiving your new RePUB conversions in your stage environment.
2. We'll complete any front end work and match the stying for the new RePUB editions to (or as close as possible to..) your old NITF editions.
3. We'll ask you review the new format in the stage environment.
4. Once you're happy with the format we'll then make the migration on your production environment, this won't need an app update and can be done with a server side change!
5. If you edit editions in the Bolt CMS we'll ensure you understand the new post editing workflow.
Please note! We won't be charging you for this work, and there won't be any additional costs associated with the migration.
What do we need from your now?
Nothing! We'll create a support ticket and any communication about the RePUB migration can happen there.
We'll let you know once the migration and styling has been complete in stage, it would be great if you could take the time to review and let us know when you're happy for us to move the word to production.
And please do let us know if you do edit any enhanced PDF editions in the CMS after upload, we'll then organise a training session for you with the new process!
