              Bolt Android 4.0.20 - 2024-08-15

              Major changes

              New Android API

              Useful for: Your product team

Bolt Android 4.0 targets API level 34 (Android 14), this is a requirement for app submissions after 31/8/2024. We update this every year as a matter of course, conducting a full regression pass of the platform as part of this, so 4.0 also fixes a lot of smaller bugs we came across during this testing.

Who's affected: All Bolt customers with and Android app.

What you need to do: Nothing specific, your next app update will be on 4.0 or higher.

Improvements to the underlying navigation framework of the app

              Useful for: Your product team

Bolt Android 4.0 changes the underlying navigation framework of the app. This is where we've adopted Android's latest technologies, and in many cases this simply brings Bolt Android closer to Bolt iOS.

As a whole these changes should result in a smoother, more intuitive app experience, albeit one that presents itself subtly. Bolt Android should now behave more like Google's own apps and best practices.

              Further details on these changes.

Who's affected: All Bolt customers with and Android app.

What you need to do: Nothing specific, your next app update will be on 4.0 or higher and will receive all benefits.

              Enhanced user control over notifications

Useful for: Your product and audience teams

We've created a new preference centre for your users to highlight the topics that they're most interested in. Users who opt in to specific topics will have a tag assigned to them in your push provider dashboard, allowing you to send targeted and curated pushes to particular audiences and improve your push engagement.

While the new preference centre is currently only available for OneSignal customers, we plan to expand it to other providers soon.

Who's affected: Bolt customers using OneSignal as their push provider.

What you need to do: Reach out to your Customer Success Manager to update your Bolt product to Android 4.0 and to configure your push preference centre for you.

              Choose how you read

              Useful for: Your product team

When viewing edition content in a landscape orientation we present it as a double page spread, more reminiscent of traditional physical edition reading. However some users prefer to always read a single page digitally, regardless of device size, so we've added a setting to allow users to choose to keep the dynamic double page flow, or to always read content as single pages.

Who's affected: All Bolt customers with double page edition content.

What you need to do: Update your app to Android 4.0 and let us know if you would like to add this setting item for you.
